A small proportion of students in New Brighton attend ISD 282, which serves New Brighton in whole or in part. The school, however, has a large number of students from nearby private high schools, some of which are attended by residents, including St. Paul High School, New York City High and the University of Minnesota - Duluth. In addition to several parks, including Hidden Lake Park, Lake of the Lakes Park and several other parks in the area, it also has a long history as a popular destination for hiking, camping, fishing and other outdoor activities.

The authority is known regionally and nationally for its successful community policing efforts. Students from southern NewBrighton used to visit Mound View, but more students were sent to IrONDale to ease the overcrowding. Irondsale High School is located on Long Lake Road and is attended by students from Mounded View Middle and Sunnyview Elementary as well as the eastern part of New Brighton. High School students with more than 1,000 students a year at HighView Middle School.
