Activating the OpenAIR Gallery: A New Chapter for Creativity in New Brighton
Today we launch something bigger than a video, bigger than a campaign — it’s a statement of intent. New Brighton Creative Futures is activating the OpenAIR Gallery as a living, breathing creative engine for the town. Not just a place to look at murals, but a place to learn from them, create with them, and build futures around them.
A Gallery Built for Imagination
The OpenAIR Gallery has always been unusual: no turnstiles, no tickets, no closing time. It belongs to the public. But this campaign pushes that idea further.
Every mural is now a story prompt.
Every street corner becomes a scene.
Every wall is a backdrop where people can explore their own creativity — whether they’re picking up a camera, opening a laptop for the first time, or experimenting with generative AI tools.
We want visitors to wander through the Victoria Quarter and feel like they’ve stepped onto an open film set. A place where anyone can create something — whether it’s a short film, a digital concept, a training project, or a simple moment of inspiration.
A Future Built on Local Heroes
New Brighton’s murals have always celebrated the people who make this town what it is — volunteers, lifeboat crews, captains, dancers, musicians, and the everyday characters who define Merseyside’s culture.
This campaign invites people to learn from those stories and discover their own inner superheroes. The message is simple: creativity grows in places where people feel proud of who they are and confident in what they can become.
Incubating Talent, One Skill at a Time
NBCF isn’t just commissioning murals.
We’re building a pipeline for skills.
Through workshops, open sessions, collaborations, and hands-on projects, we want to help people learn:
Generative AI — how to use new tools safely, responsibly, and creatively.
Filmmaking — from phone-first content to more advanced production.
Photography and editing — using the OpenAIR Gallery as a dynamic set.
Digital storytelling — turning local history and culture into film, sound, and visual projects.
Street art practice and visual culture — learning from the artists shaping our town.
The OpenAIR Gallery gives learners something no classroom can: a real location with real meaning. It anchors creativity in the streets people walk every day.
A Bigger Vision for New Brighton
This campaign marks the first step in a wider programme to grow a creative economy around New Brighton:
More artists.
More workshops.
More skills development.
More community involvement.
More career pathways for young people in digital and creative industries.
Our vision is simple: a town where creativity isn’t a side project — it’s part of everyday life, leading to real opportunities.
This is just the beginning.
The OpenAIR Gallery is waking up — and we’re inviting the world to join us.
