Restoration Programme
Preserving the OpenAIR Gallery
INSA Mansion
Smug One - Mike Jones — RNLI
In 2025, NBCF completed a full survey of existing artworks across the OpenAIR Gallery. Condition ranged from minor wear to urgent intervention.
Critical Priority Works
INSA Mansion — Post Office Mural. Severe deterioration; sections at risk of failure.
Ben Eine — I See the Sea. Visible water ingress below paint and mortar; damage will spread without intervention.
Mike Jones — RNLI Portrait. Structural crack across the brow already separating; at risk if not sealed and stabilised.
Wider Restoration Scope
Mid-level repairs and repainting.
Surface cleaning and consolidation.
Sealing and protective coatings.
Ongoing monitoring and maintenance schedule.
Why Restoration Matters
Protects significant national and international works.
Maintains artist trust, showing that New Brighton is a serious, responsible location for major pieces.
Represents better value than full replacement.
Preserves the integrity of the OpenAIR Gallery as a curated district, not a disposable backdrop.
Indicative timeline
Priority works scheduled across 2026–2027, beginning with urgent repairs (INSA, I See the Sea, RNLI portrait) and continuing with a structured maintenance programme.
