OpenAIR

Creativity isn’t decoration. It’s infrastructure.

Welcome to New Brighton Creative Futures — the crew behind the murals, the movement, and the future of art by the sea.

What we do, why we do it, how you can help.

Activate the OpenAIR Gallery

Tap the map, unlock the town. What you’re about to explore is more than walls with paint. It’s a story written in pigment, brick and seaside breeze. In New Brighton the open-air gallery didn’t arrive by accident. Since 2018, the town has quietly become a canvas for local and international artists alike. From brightly dripping flowers by French artist Nerone on Virginia & Belmont Road, to the bold foil balloons of Fanakapan screaming “I Heart NB”, to the towering tribute to Captain Mike Lowe — youngest ever ferry commander on the Mersey.

Each mural marks a moment: a heritage rediscovered, a community claim-staked, a street revived. One piece honours the one-legged diver who hunted pennies off the pier. Another remembers lifeboat service on the shore. Now you hold the map. Follow the trail. Walk Victoria Road, Windsor Street, the harbour edges, the curious corners where you didn’t know art waited. With every step you’re tracing the story of place: decline, reinvention, and that stubborn surge of creativity.

So go ahead: pick a pin, tap the marker, start your wander. Let the sea-air seep in. Let the colour pull you round the block. Let the voices of the town talk through their art. This gallery belongs to everyone: locals, visitors, children with curious eyes, anyone who believes a town’s story still matters.

Activate the trail. Explore. Be part of it.
